Snowboarding Clothes
If you’ve never snowboarded before you probably will have to
buy snowboarding clothes. You really don’t have to spend a huge
fortune for the clothes, but do make sure the clothes are
appropriate for snowboarding.
Snowboarding
Pants
Never make the mistake of wearing normal pants for
snowboarding. You really need to buy pants that are meant for
snowboarding, especially if you are just a beginner. Remember
that if you are a neophyte, you are most likely to be the one
stumbling most of the time on your knees or on your behind.
Hence, if you happen to be wearing casual jeans then the ice
will melt every time you fall on the snow and you will
eventually get soaked and cold. This is not a good way to
learn.
Although you can use ski pants as an alternative when you
don’t have snowboarding pants yet, they will not allow you to
do the movements that you can normally do wearing snowboarding
pants. Ski pants are not intended for tricks like aerial spins
or jumps. So when you’re buying snowboarding pants, look for
pairs that have enough room for you to do your tricks. Also,
you extra padding, especially on the knee and butt area since
these are the parts that commonly catch your plunges.
The purpose of snowboarding pants is to ensure protection
from injury, weather conditions, and any other external force.
There is generally an accepted method to maintain your core
temperature and prevent you from cooling off easily and this is
known as the Three Layer System.
This system is composed of a base layer, an insulation layer
and an outer shell. The base layer is the only layer directly
in contact with your skin and its sole purpose is to turn the
moisture away from the skin. Then comes the insulation layer,
which is also intended to get rid of moisture, but also to
insulate your body by confining your body heat. The outer shell
is the layer directly exposed to the environment. It is
expected to be waterproof, windproof and has also a breathable
outlet for moisture.

Jacket
When considering a snowboarding jacket, try not to be too
concerned with price. Of course you want to get alot for your
money, but this is not a place to cheap out. Cheap jackets can
actually cost you more money in the long run. Why? Because a
cheap jacket may have waterproof coating that wears off over
time, meaning you have to buy another jacket far sooner than
had you gone with a more expensive jacket.
What to look for in a good snowboarding jacket? Again,
you'll want to make sure it has good quality waterproofing. You
don't want just a waterproof coating, but you want the jacket
made out of waterproof materials. Better jackets also have
taped seams and insulated zippers. You'll also want to check
out the "breathability" of the jacket. You want to check for
vents that allow your jacket to breath, as well as zippers that
open at the arms, the chest or the back which will enable you
to release some of the heat. Check for cuffs as well. These are
good for keeping the chilly breeze from entering your
sleeves.

Boots
When purchasing snowboarding boots, you have to first decide
which kind of snowboarding you'll be doing: FreeStyle, FreeRide
or FreeCarve. If you're going to engage mostly in FreeStyle and
FreeRide snowboarding, then you'll want to look into soft
boots. If you're going to go for FreeCarve snowboarding, then
you'll want to look into hard boots, which resemble the
traditional ski boots, but have lateral mobility for the
snowboarder's ankle. The soles of Hard Boots usually have a
mechanism that allows them to be connected to plate
bindings.
Or, try hybrid boots. Hybrid boots are a
good choice for those who want the comfort and flexibility of
soft boots, but the conrol of hard boots. As with Hard Boots,
you will need to find a match between the Step-in Binding
mechanism and the Boot mechanism.
But no matter which type of snowboarding boots you plan to
buy and irrespective of the amount of money you are willing to
spend for your boots, the most important factor in choosing
your snowboarding boots is the manner in which your feet fits
inside them.
Resist the urge to buy bigger boots. The problem with
snowboarding boots is that they are harder and they seem
inflexible, so many people tend to buy snowboarding boots that
are a little oversized to give more room for the feet.
Oversized boots can cause injuries like sprains and even bone
fractures. If your snowboarding boots are oversized, try
wearing thick socks to compensate for too much space inside
your boots.
